An experienced optometrist, Dr. Monique Nguyen is passionate about making a difference in other people’s lives. She feels there is no greater joy than helping her patients protect, enhance, and optimize their most important sense – their vision.
As an optometry student at the Southern California College of Optometry, Dr. Nguyen was diagnosed with a vision disorder called convergence insufficiency. She was successfully treated with vision therapy, one of the disciplines within optometry.
Her experiences made her enthusiastic about the possibilities offered by vision therapy. Today, Dr. Nguyen is one few optometrists in Southern California trained and equipped to provide vision therapy services. She takes pride in using vision therapy to help patients of all ages find solutions for their most debilitating vision problems.
After finishing her Doctor of Optometry degree, Dr. Nguyen decided to pursue residency training in Pediatric Optometry and Vision Therapy. She received extensive training in diagnosing and treating visual disorders in patients of all ages. During her residency, Dr. Nguyen gathered additional expertise in sports vision, computer vision syndrome, and vision-related learning disorders.
Following her residency, Dr. Nguyen remained at SCCO to teach the future doctors of optometry. Dr. Nguyen also coordinates and supervises the vision clinic at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove. This clinic provides children from under served communities with free or low-cost vision exams and glasses.
Dr. Nguyen is grateful to have had so many opportunities to give back to her community. She takes pride in making a difference in her students’ and patients’ lives. When not teaching new optometry students or serving patients, she can be found spending time with her two children and enjoying life in the Mission Viejo area.
